- Right click on the WiFi adapter > Status > Wireless Properties > Security
- Set security type to No authentication (Open)
- Set encryption type to WEP
- Enter your network security key
This would allow you to connect to a network device that supports WEP. However, changing the WiFi adapter to WEP doesn’t affect the encryption type of the Microsoft Hosted Network Virtual Adapter which is used if you share WiFi of your Windows 8 PC. You can verify this with the command netsh wlan show hostednetwork after you started the hostenetwork.
The virtual adapter doesn’t allow you to change the Wireless Properties in the Networking and Sharing Center. Thus I conclude, it is not possible to share WiFi with WEP encryption on Windows 8.
